Leadership renewal reflects government’s efforts to gather feedback

The appointment of Assoc Prof Dr Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim’s appointment as Acting Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs reflects the government’s continued efforts to remain relevant and connected with the community. Political observers shared that Dr Faishal will face various challenges. Among them is the need to clarify the nuances and complexities involved in mixing religion with politics. Dr Walid Jumblatt, associate professor at NTU’s School of Social Sciences, highlighted the importance of clarifying the boundaries between religion and politics. "On one hand, the public agrees with the principle of not mixing religion with politics. However, we have a Minister-in-Charge of Muslim Affairs and the Malay Activity Executive Committee (MAEC). Therefore, by clarifying these nuances, I think it will greatly help us understand where the lines are, what it means to mix religion or race with politics," said Dr Walid.
